Traditional Braces

Modern Braces & Clear Braces

Today's modern braces are more advanced, comfortable, and efficient than ever before. Designed with improved technology, they work faster and more precisely to align teeth and correct bite issues.

Clear aligners (such as Invisalign) are a popular orthodontic option that use a series of clear, removable trays to straighten teeth gradually. While aligners are a great solution for many patients, they may not be ideal for more severe misalignments or complex orthodontic concerns.

Modern Braces (metal and ceramic braces) remain the most effective treatment for patients of all ages. They can correct a wide range of orthodontic issues, from simple crowing to more complex bite and alignment problems.

Clear braces offer the same powerful results as traditional braces while blending naturally with your teeth. Their nearly invisible makes them and attractive and discreet option for patients who want effective orthodontic treatment without the look of metal braces.

Braces Can Improve Other Health Problems

One of the major benefits of braces is that in addition to giving you a beautiful smile, braces can help eliminate or reduce other problems that are caused by dental misalignments. Spaces or overlapping teeth will often lead to uneven wear of, or difficulty in cleaning the teeth and gums, sometimes even leading to loss of teeth or the need for major dental work. Bite problems, which can be corrected by braces, can lead to migraine headaches, bruxism or even respiratory difficulties. With advances in modern braces, a bad bite or other teeth alignment problem can be fixed faster than ever before.

Children Must Wear Braces Instead of Aligners

Most children cannot wear Invisalign aligners because they generally do not have all their permanent teeth in, and there is often too much temptation to remove the aligners, slowing the process of tooth movement. Children’s mouths also change rapidly, and the molds that an orthodontist creates may not fit correctly in only a few weeks. Because of these reasons, many of the patients who visit an orthodontist will require some type of braces rather than aligners to repair their malocclusions. However, there is no need to worry about having a mouth that is full of ugly metal brackets and wires because the newest treatments are much more attractive and low-profile than in years past. In addition, if you want to have a natural-looking smile while wearing braces, then you can request color-matching ceramic brackets for a look that is nearly as invisible as Invisalign.

Malocclusions That Require Treatment With Braces

An orthodontic examination is the only way to determine if you can wear aligners, but braces can often be more appropriate for these types of problems:

  • Under Bites
  • Overbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites
  • Deep bites
  • Severely crooked teeth
  • Jaw abnormalities

Our metal braces are made of surgical-grade stainless steel and use wires made from either stainless steel or a nickel-titanium “memory” alloy. Many of our patients enjoy decorating their braces with bright colors, which they can customize at each visit. At The Wright Center for Orthodontics in Camarillo, CA, Dr. Chad Wright will discuss your, or your child’s treatment options to help you make a decision concerning the best type of treatment for your needs. Depending on the type of malocclusion that a patient has, along with their age and overall health, orthodontic treatment typically requires between 12 to 30 months to complete.
